CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 272-240 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 6.51 g, 12 h), Philenenos, magistrate. Nude youth riding horse standing to right, holding bridles with both hands; to right, ΦΙ; below, ΦΙΛΗΝΕ-Ν[ΟΣ]. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding tripod in his right hand and trident in his left; in field to right, bucranium with fillets hanging from horns. HN Italy 1035. Vlasto 884. Nicely toned. The reverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, very fine.
